Story
MODEL began as a question and an intention. We knew we were faced with a climate, housing and mental health crisis in Australia.
We asked ourselves - not if, but how can the built form help address all three issues?
It spurred the vision to create something better, something worth sharing and something worth acting upon.
When Rory founded MODEL, he wasn’t just responding to one problem but to three intersecting ones: the climate crisis, the housing crisis, and the mental health & loneliness crisis. The question at the heart of MODEL's creation was simple yet important: How can housing address all three?
For too long, housing in Australia—particularly apartments—was viewed as part of the problem, heightening isolation and environmental harm. MODEL was created to flip the script – it is not just a residential project; it reimagines housing as a solution that connects communities, leads the decarbonization of the built form, and delivers high-quality housing at scale. Every project reserves at least 10% for affordable housing, making it a crucial part of MODEL’s mission.
What sets MODEL apart is its commitment to rethinking the way we live, from the design to the day-to-day experience. Sustainability and wellbeing aren’t just buzzwords—they’re embedded in every decision made.
